Cornerstone Award Goes to Ernie Nedder
Corpus Christi's own Ernie Nedder was characterized as "a truly amazing steward" by Bishop Gerald Kicanas as Nedder modestly accepted the Cornerstone Award of the Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Tucson, on April 13, for his outstanding service in support of the diocese's mission in Southern Arizona. Nedder, with his wife Kathy and their children and grandchildren, heard the applause of 400 supporters at the Foundation's annual Gala held at the Marriott Star Pass Resort.
Nedder recently completed a "temporary" commitment to serve as interim chancellor for the diocese... the temporary service stretched from 2009 until 2012. During this time, noted Bishop Kicanas, Ernie won the highest resepct among all those who work in the pastoral center.
Ernie and Kathy are among the founders of Corpus Christi and have served in numerous volunteer leadership positions since the inception of the parish.
Catholic Extension was also honored for its many decades of support to the diocese. Catholic Extension, headquartered in Chicago, provides financial support to mission dioceses throughout the U.S. including supporting the education of future priests and construction of churches in economically disadvantaged communities. Since its founding in 1905, Catholic Extension has helped build 12,000 churches.
Seven Who Completed Initiation at Easter Vigil
Six New Catholics Enter Corpus Christi at Easter Vigil
We call those who have come into the church the rejuvenated Rite of Christian Initiation “neophytes” during their first year as new Catholic Christians. This year, Corpus Christi is blessed to have 6 neophytes (the word means “newly planted”) among us.
Pearl Desch, Jackson Baker, Sophia Baker, Christopher Huerta, Camryn Huerta-Rojas, and Casey Huerta-Rojas all entered the church at the Easter Vigil, Saturday evening, March 30, with Fr Richard Kingsley presiding at their Bastism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist.
In addition, another Corpus Christi parish member, First Lieutenant Brent Bubany was confirmed. Bubany completed his preparation for the sacrament while serving with the US Army in Afghanistan during this past year.
The RCIA team, who worked with the neophytes throughout the months leading up to the Vigil celebration included: Dcn. Mark Cesnik, Anna Elias-Cesnik, Anita Timpani, and Suzanne Hensel.
A new series of information and formation sessions will begin in May for those interested in entering the church at the Vigil next spring. You may contact Dcn. Mark for more information. DeaconMark@cccctucson.org
