Sr. Jose Women’s Shelter Needs Volunteers
The Sr. Jose Women's Center had its beginning as a night emergency shelter during the coldest winter nights and operated as such for the past two winters. Through the personal stories of poverty, violence, unsafe and unhealthy living conditions of our women guests, we developed a vision of providing a warm, safe and loving Christian environment for the women we serve.
Very cold nights will arrive soon and during those cold nights, women living on the streets need a warm, secure place to sleep. We have a unique opportunity to reach out in support and compassion to these women in need. Last year, the Sr. Jose Hobday Women's Shelter ran from November 25 through March. It was a very successful year and we provided over 1000 bed nights for women.
We are busy planning for our third year and will run Sr. Jose's Women's Shelter during Operation Deep Freeze from mid November through April. This year we will be in our new home located on 18th Street, near the St. Vin-cent De Paul Center just south of Downtown. The shelter will hold approximately 12 - 14 sleeping cots for women only and will operate from approximately 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. seven days a week.
We need women volunteers to stay one night every two weeks at the shelter. If you have an interest or would like further information regarding guidelines and procedures, please contact Jean Fedigan at 954-3373 (cell) or 749-5688 (Home) for more information.
